PhD Scholarships

The SQA Scholarships foster research and recognise and encourage excellence amongst postgraduate candidates intending to undertake their research training in related fields of quantum science and technology. The Scholarships provide successful candidates a unique opportunity to work with researchers with industry linkages across Sydney’s foremost universities leading the way in the quantum field.

The SQA Primary PhD Scholarship aimed at national and international students with an outstanding track record of academic achievement and research potential. Candidates will pursue full time Research Doctorate study at one of the foundation Universities related to the field of quantum science and technology. The Scholarship provides a stipend of $35,000 per annum AUD for a maximum duration of four years. Student tuition fees will be waived for successful international applicants. Applicants must be endorsed by at least one academic staff at one of the partner universities who will supervise the student during the PhD and provide the required research support. Applications with joint-institutional supervision and an element of industry engagement are strongly encouraged.

Top Up PhD Scholarship

The SQA Top Up PhD Scholarship recognises and fosters excellent postgraduate research degree candidates working in the field of quantum science and technology at our partnering universities. The SQA Top Up PhD Scholarship is open for any PhD student holding a current primary scholarship administered by one of the partner universities. The SQA Top Up PhD Scholarship will cover the difference between the value of the primary stipend and the SQA Primary PhD Scholarship for the remaining duration of the primary stipend. In addition, the awardee may be provided with a primary scholarship of $35,000 per annum AUD to extend their primary scholarship for a total duration of up to four years. Applications are open for PhD students who have started their PhD less than two-and-a-half years prior of application and the primary stipend being less than $33,000 AUD per annum.

The applications will be reviewed, ranked and selected by the SQA Selection Committee. The committee meets twice per year. All scholarship holders are encouraged and expected to successfully pass the SQA PhD Experience Program as complementary educational course work to their research training.
