One of the most fascinating and fundamental challenges facing the quantum computing industry is establishing which material and architecture will ultimately prove the most stable for processing quantum information. R&D from the university and startup sector taking place in Sydney and the UK has seen silicon-based architectures gain significant momentum and investment dollars over the past couple of years.
The UK-based Quantum Motion is one company helping to prove silicon’s potential. It’s on a mission to develop scalable quantum computers by harnessing silicon technology already in use in today’s smartphones and computers.

Hear from Quantum Motion CEO, Dr James Palles-Dimmock. James has raised over £60m in funds for Quantum Motion from an international investor base and grown it from scratch to a team of over 40. We’ll hear about his journey, his view on Australia’s quantum industry and where to next for Quantum Motion.
The discussion and Q&A session will be chaired by Petra Andren, Head of Innovation Districts, Greater Cities Commission.
Networking drinks will follow the Q&A session.

Dr James Palles-Dimmock
James has over 15 years of experience delivering products from early-stage concepts through R&D programmes; developing, protecting and commercialising new semiconductor technologies, in particular during his time at Japanese electronics company Sharp. He has transferred technology to factories both in the UK and Japan and his work has spanned the TRLs, from developing the first lab-based demonstration of a hot carrier solar cell to consulting on production issues in solar panel assembly lines.
A physicist by background, James has a first-class MSc in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, a PhD in Quantum Physics from Imperial College London and is a fellow of the Electrical Research Association (ERA).
