29 September – 1 October 2026 | 9am–3pm AEST | Sydney, in person + online via Zoom

Now in its fifth year, Quantum Tech Camp is a three-day engaging program for students in Years 9–12 who want to explore an emerging area of science and technology.

You'll learn the basics of quantum computing through interactive activities, coding and problem-solving, then put your knowledge into practice using quantum computing tools.

No prior knowledge of quantum physics or quantum computing is required.

Code. Create. Explore Quantum.

Get hands-on with the ideas behind quantum computing and explore concepts including:

🔮 Superposition
🔗 Entanglement
🎲 Quantum randomness

Use coding and quantum computing tools to experiment, tackle challenges and build solutions.

New to coding? You'll be supported through beginner-friendly activities.

Already know how to code? You'll have opportunities to work with text-based programming (Python) and tackle more challenging activities.

You'll also hear from Australian quantum researchers and mentors and connect with other students from across Australia interested in science, technology and innovation.

Why explore quantum?

Quantum technology is developing rapidly, creating demand for people with skills across computing, science, engineering, mathematics and many other fields. Building awareness and skills early can help students understand the opportunities emerging in this field and the pathways that could lead there.

Quantum Tech Camp 2026 is delivered by Sydney Quantum Academy in partnership with Quokka Quantum, with venue support from Macquarie University. Scholarships for eligible students are supported by the Australian Government’s Sponsorship Grants for Student Science Engagement and International Competitions 2026, administered by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources.

Quantum Tech Camp FAQ

Quantum Tech Camp is open to Australian high school students in Years 9–12.

Teachers are also welcome to attend as observers alongside their students.

You'll be fine if you're comfortable using a computer, including:

Saving and opening files
Using basic software and web applications

Experience with coding (such as Scratch or beginner Python) is helpful but not required. The camp will have activities designed for students new to coding, and for students who have coding experience.

There will be an online orientation session on Monday 28 September 2026 2pm to 4pm, before the camp to walk you through the quantum simulation software and ensure it's running okay on your laptop.

If you're curious and willing to give things a go, you're ready to participate.

The in-person program will be held at Macquarie University’s Wallumattagal Campus in Macquarie Park, NSW.

The campus is easily accessible by public transport and car:

Free parking is available for Tech Camp participants
Macquarie University Metro Station is right at the campus, on the corner of Herring Road and University Avenue
Bus services operate from stops within the campus and connect Macquarie with suburbs across Sydney

Further information about the venue and parking arrangements will be provided to registered participants before the camp.

A limited number of scholarships, valued at $300, are available and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. A portion of these scholarships are reserved for students attending schools with an ICSEA score below 1,000, supporting equitable access to STEM opportunities.

Students who do not receive a scholarship can still attend the camp by paying the $300 participation fee, whether attending in person or online.
