We are proud to announce our largest undergraduate cohort to date.
Forty-seven undergraduate students studying in Australia, representing 13 countries, have been awarded scholarships valued at AU$3,333 to participate in a six-week summer research program at the University of Technology Sydney, the University of Sydney, UNSW Sydney, and Macquarie University.
The 2025 cohort comprises students from a wide range of academic disciplines, including Engineering, Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Commerce.
The program offers students the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research projects, guided by leading academics and early career researchers. With projects available ranging from quantum algorithms to advanced materials for quantum devices, students will have the opportunity to gain practical experience, develop new skills, broaden their understanding of quantum technology, and explore the real-world applications of quantum research, through theoretical investigations or hands-on projects in the lab.
Projects like "Towards a Quantum-Safe Internet" and "Quantum Machine Learning Modelling for Credit Card Fraud Detection" illustrate the real-world applications of quantum research, addressing challenges in cybersecurity and financial systems.
“This opportunity is an incredible step toward expanding my skills and understanding in quantum technology” said James Lawton, a Bachelor of Engineering student at Macquarie university.
The program also fosters collaboration, cross-disciplinary learning, and networking by enabling students enrolled at one of our four partner universities to complete their summer research project at another partner institution.
“This program gives students the unique chance to engage in hands-on research while experiencing different academic environments,” said SQA CEO Peter Turner. “It’s an exciting opportunity to develop skills and build connections that could shape their future careers in the quantum field.”
