SQA PhD Scholarship Program

Our PhD scholarships fund outstanding domestic and international students to collaborate with world-class researchers at Sydney’s leading universities: Macquarie University, UNSW Sydney, the University of Sydney, and University of Technology Sydney.

As an SQA scholar, you’ll go beyond research—participating in the SQA PhD Experience Program, a core part of the scholarship. Through coursework at our partner universities, exclusive training, seminars, and workshops, you’ll develop essential skills for the quantum workforce. You'll also connect with a vibrant community of quantum PhD students across Sydney, network with leading experts, and access career development opportunities in academia and industry—giving you a competitive edge.

There are four streams of SQA PhD Scholarships, offering funding of up to AU$41,753 per annum (2025 rate, pro rata) and additional top-up or extension options. All streams include entry to the SQA PhD Experience Program, career development funding, and tuition fee waivers for international recipients (with additional costs covered at the university's discretion).

Next Generation Quantum Graduates Scholarship Program

Scholarships for outstanding domestic PhD students to conduct collaborative quantum research at our partner universities, with a 6-month industry placement and coursework covering key quantum science and technology concepts. Join a national cohort tackling real-world challenges through a multidisciplinary approach.

Explore research projects with industry leaders BTQ and Eigensystems at Macquarie University, and Diraq at UNSW Sydney. You will need a relevant research proposal for one of these projects and an endorsement from the specific research supervisor.

This CSIRO-funded scholarship, supported by SQA, offers funding of AU$41,650 per annum (pro-rata) for 3.5 years, plus allowances for training, travel, publications, and a one-off cost-of-living payment.
