Be inspired with 10 beautiful films at the Quantum Shorts film festival screening this National Science Week.

About this event

Join the Sydney Quantum Academy for a special screening of the Quantum Shorts Film Festival Finalists 2021 during National Science Week. This livestream event will feature a Q&A panel of quantum experts and a quantum shorts film finalist, discussing the movies and their take on quantum.

Quantum Shorts Film Festival Finalists

Open your imagination to the possibilities of a quantum future! Come on a journey into the creative world of quantum physics through the eyes of ten winning short films. These stories, selected from 224 films, from 52 countries tell a quantum story in under five minutes. Each evokes a human story – the way we might react to “a world where the weirdness of quantum physics is manifest around us. Whether it is children, or beguiling young adults, or a future society, I can feel the imagination of those films opening up my own.” (Joshua Slater – QuTech).

The films are rated for general audiences, but some touch on themes such as loss and existentialism, which may be distressing for some viewers. Most films are subtitled; a few involve on-screen messages or subtitles (e.g. for dialogue in languages other than English).

International filmmakers and a panel of quantum experts

Quantum Shorts is an international contest for creative works inspired by quantum physics and hosted online, and organised by the Centre of Quantum Technologies (CQT)  at the University of Singapore. Quantum Shorts filmmakers, from around the world, explore life and our universe through a quantum lens. The expert panel includes James Der Derian, Chris Willoughby, Zixin Huang, Irene Fernandez Fuentes and hosted by Cyril Laplane.

Sydney Quantum Academy  is proud to be a screening partner for the Quantum Shorts contest 2020/2021. This event is run in collaboration with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems, a scientific partner for Quantum Shorts.
